tarkis's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- just a lost child the old man found her wandering in the forest.. the sobs had stopped long ago... only the tears remained.. silent. the old man sat down next to the tree.. She watched him warily.. they didn't speak.. but his eyes twinkled. the old man pulled something out of his pocket.. it was wood.. She inched closer to see what it was. Do you know what this is? he asked... She shook her head no.. She needed to get closer to get a better look but was afraid. He held it out to her... so she could see... it was a butterfly . a wooden butterfly and in spite of herself, she smiled.. She reached for it... he let her take it.. It was beautiful... She wanted to keep it .. it was so beautiful but something told her she shouldn't be touching it... She started to give it back... No.. keep it .. it is yours... She shook her head.. No.. I will break it.. She gave it back. She started to walk away... Where are you going the old man asked... She told him she was hungry and going to find some berries.. he asked if he could walk with her.. She said NO... NO... I know where the place is... and as she walked away... alone in the forest... She wished she could have said yes to the old man who seemed so nice.. but she remembered others and knew she could not. and she found her berry patch and her pile of stones and the moss that was so soft for her to lie on... and she wondered if ever someone would find her... She was so little and lost. She wanted to go to school and be like the older kids that she remembered seeing on their way to school from her window.. but that was before.
